Toyota Motor has denied recent claims by Donald Trump that the company plans to invest more than $10 billion in the United States over the next few years. The former US president, during his visit to Japan, said he had been told the automaker would build factories “all over” the country worth over $10 billion.

A senior Toyota executive clarified that while the company remains committed to investing and creating jobs in the US, no such specific pledge or figure was discussed. Hiroyuki Ueda, speaking at the Japan Mobility Show in Tokyo, said the misunderstanding may have arisen because Toyota invested around $10 billion during Trump’s first term. He added that the company only reiterated its intent to continue supporting the US economy through ongoing projects and employment.

Toyota confirmed that the topic of a new large-scale investment was not raised during a recent meeting between Trump and company chairman Akio Toyoda at the US embassy in Tokyo.
