A federal judge in Portland, Oregon, has rejected the Trump administration’s urgent request to lift a ban on deploying federalized National Guard troops to the city. Judge Karin Immergut stated that she would make a final decision by Monday on whether to maintain or lift her earlier order, which currently prevents troop deployment.

The ruling is part of a broader legal clash across several US cities as the Trump administration seeks to send military forces into Democratic-led areas, citing public safety concerns. Immergut had previously ruled that Trump exceeded his authority when he attempted to federalize the Oregon National Guard under the claim that Portland was in a “state of rebellion.” She later expanded her order to block troop deployments from other states after Trump redirected additional forces to Oregon.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily lifted Immergut’s first order earlier this week, but her second order remains in effect. The appellate court has since paused the lifting of that decision until Tuesday, ensuring that federalized troops remain barred from entering Portland for at least several more days.

Meanwhile, related legal battles continue in Washington, D.C., and Chicago, where judges are weighing the limits of presidential authority over National Guard deployments. The ongoing disputes highlight deep tensions between federal and local governments over the use of military power in domestic law enforcement.
