The Seattle Sounders clinched the Leagues Cup title with a commanding 3-0 victory over Inter Miami on Sunday, but the post-match celebrations were overshadowed by Luis Suárez’s controversial actions.

After the final whistle, Suárez confronted Seattle’s 20-year-old midfielder Obed Vargas, wrapping his arm tightly around Vargas’s neck before being pulled away by players from both sides. The confrontation escalated further when Suárez was later seen berating Sounders security director Gene Ramirez and then spitting on him, an act caught on camera.

The Uruguayan striker, who went scoreless in the final, has a long history of disciplinary controversies, including multiple biting incidents earlier in his career. Major League Soccer has previously issued multi-game bans for spitting, meaning Suárez could face suspension as the league reviews the incident.

Seattle’s victory was powered by goals from Osaze De Rosario in the first half and two late strikes as Miami pressed forward. Vargas played a crucial role in containing Lionel Messi and Suárez, repeatedly breaking up Miami’s attacks and frustrating their forward line. The flashpoint between him and Suárez triggered the wider melee, which also involved Sergio Busquets and several staff members from both clubs.

With the win, Seattle secured their ninth major trophy since joining MLS in 2009 and booked a direct spot in the round of 16 of next year’s Concacaf Champions Cup. Miami, despite the defeat, qualified for the tournament’s earlier stage as runners-up.
