Former U.S. President Donald Trump said that Argentina’s President Javier Milei received significant assistance from the United States in securing his party’s midterm election victory. Speaking during his Asia visit, Trump described Milei’s win as a “big victory” and a “great thing” for Argentina’s future.

Trump revealed that his administration extended strong financial support to Argentina ahead of the polls, including a $20 billion currency swap and a proposed $20 billion debt investment facility. He emphasized that the backing was not merely for profit but to strengthen Argentina’s economic reform agenda.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who coordinated the aid, said the financial package was designed as a bridge to help Milei stabilize the economy and reverse decades of mismanagement. “He’s working against 100 years of bad policies,” Bessent stated.

Credit agencies have noted that U.S. support helped stabilize Argentina’s bond market and prevented a downgrade of its credit rating, though analysts say more structural reforms are needed to rebuild reserves and ensure long-term recovery.
