Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the United States has shared information with Kyiv about several meetings that took place in Moscow in recent days, but he did not provide details about who attended or what was discussed.
“We received information from the American side about the meetings in Moscow that took place these days,” Zelenskyy said in a statement posted on Telegram. He thanked the US for the information and for maintaining what he described as an appropriate tone in discussions with Russia.
The remarks come amid reports of increased diplomatic and intelligence activity between Washington and Moscow.
Reports of US-Russia discussions
Reports have suggested that CIA Director John Ratcliffe travelled to Moscow and raised concerns about the possibility of Russia taking military action against a NATO member.
The Kremlin has rejected those reports. US President Donald Trump has also played down concerns, saying he does not expect Russian President Vladimir Putin to attack a NATO country.
The reported discussions also touched on Russia’s relationship with Iran, according to people familiar with the matter.
Poland monitoring developments
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said Warsaw remains in close contact with US intelligence officials and was aware of the developments surrounding Ratcliffe’s reported visit to Moscow.
Tusk said Poland had been informed about the need for discussions at a high level between Polish and US officials. He also warned that Russia could be preparing for further escalation involving Ukraine and the wider region.
According to Tusk, the coming autumn and winter could prove particularly important as tensions surrounding Russia, Ukraine and European security continue.
