Amidst a backdrop of global conflicts and crises, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has emphasized the importance of revitalizing relations between Türkiye and the United States. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan underscored the necessity of enhanced dialogue and cooperation between the two NATO allies to address ongoing international challenges.
Erdoğan highlighted the positive outcomes that have resulted from past collaborations between Türkiye and the United States, particularly in the Middle East. He expressed Türkiye’s commitment to deepening coordination with the U.S., proposing expanded cooperation in sectors such as nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry.
In his address, Erdoğan pointed out Türkiye’s thriving defense sector, noting a remarkable increase in annual defense exports from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion today. He expressed optimism that Türkiye could soon rank among the world’s top 10 defense exporters and called for the removal of barriers to joint defense production with the U.S.
Beyond defense, Erdoğan also encouraged U.S. investors to seize opportunities in Türkiye, citing the country’s favorable foreign investment climate and new incentives designed to attract investment. He announced Ankara’s plans to initiate a new investment drive based on a competitive incentive framework.
During the event, U.S. Senator Chris Coons highlighted the enduring partnership between the two nations, stressing the significance of business ties and entrepreneurship in bolstering bilateral relations. The gala, which celebrated a century of diplomatic and economic ties, brought together senior officials and business leaders from both countries to reflect on past achievements and explore future collaborations.
