Brad Pitt is returning as Cliff Booth, his character from Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, in a new spin-off directed by David Fincher.
Netflix has officially titled the film The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth. The story follows Booth, a Hollywood stuntman with a mysterious past, as he navigates a changing film industry.
The movie is scheduled for a two-week global IMAX run beginning November 25, followed by its Netflix streaming release on December 23.
Tarantino wrote the script
Quentin Tarantino has written the screenplay for the film but will not direct it. He previously said he did not want his final directorial project to be a sequel, despite being enthusiastic about the Cliff Booth story.
The new film is set in 1977, eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It will explore Booth’s life as he adjusts to a very different Hollywood.
Star-studded cast
Alongside Brad Pitt, the film features Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Matt Groove, JB Tadena, Corey Fogelmanis and Karren Karagulian.
The original Once Upon a Time in Hollywood starred Pitt alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie and was set in Los Angeles during the late 1960s.
David Fincher takes the director’s chair
David Fincher is directing the spin-off, bringing his experience from films including Fight Club, Zodiac, The Social Network and Gone Girl. He has also directed Netflix series such as House of Cards and Mindhunter.
Tarantino, meanwhile, has directed acclaimed films including Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.
The return of Cliff Booth marks a major reunion between Pitt and Tarantino’s iconic character, while Fincher’s involvement gives the project a distinctly different creative direction.
