U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he will host Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the White House on September 25. The meeting is expected to focus on finalizing trade and military agreements between the two countries.
Trump said discussions will include Turkey’s large-scale purchase of Boeing aircraft, a major F-16 fighter jet deal, and a continuation of F-35 program talks. “President Erdogan and I have always had a very good relationship. I look forward to seeing him on the 25th,” Trump wrote.
Erdogan last visited Washington in 2019 during Trump’s first term. While both leaders cultivated personal ties, the relationship has faced strains over U.S. support for Kurdish fighters in Syria and Turkey’s purchase of Russian S-400 missile systems. The 2019 deal led to Turkey’s removal from the F-35 program, though it later pursued an F-16 agreement with Washington.
The upcoming meeting is seen as an opportunity for both sides to reset ties and advance cooperation on defense and trade.
