The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect, citing persistent governance issues and repeated breaches of the ICC Constitution. The decision follows a year-long review and continued non-compliance with ICC membership standards.
USA Cricket had been given 12 months to address its governance deficiencies after being placed “on notice” during the 2024 ICC Annual General Meeting. However, the organization failed to implement a functional management structure or make progress toward recognition by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).
The ICC stated that USA Cricket’s actions have caused reputational harm to the sport both domestically and internationally. Despite the suspension, the ICC confirmed that USA’s national teams will still be allowed to compete in ICC events and prepare for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where cricket will make its return in the T20 format.
The ICC described the move as “regrettable but necessary” to protect the integrity and future of cricket in the United States.
